私は、高校卒業後、実業団に入社しラグビー漬けの毎日を送っていました。

当時の私は大した選手ではなかったのですが、様々な出会いや明確な目標を持ちながら充実した日々を送っていました。

しかし24歳の時、私は事故によって頭蓋骨陥没骨折・脳挫傷を負いました。

意識は戻ったものの、ラグビーが出来ない身体になってしまいました。

全てを無くしてしまった失望感、これからどうやって生きて行けばいいのかという不安、やり残した事への後悔、引退する＝自分に存在価値が無いことを認める事への恐怖。

当時の私はそれらのことをすぐに受け入れることができませんでした。

しかしその後、スポーツを通じて数々の御縁に恵まれ、私は「自分」を受入れる事が出来るようになりました。

30歳で大学に入り、大学を出てから、選手時代より広がった、社会というフィールドに立ちました。

今では現役時代と変わらない高いモチベーションを持ちながら、充実した日々を再び手にしています。

「あの事故さえ無ければ…」と現実から逃げ続けた20代でしたが、今では「あの事故のおかげで…」と感謝できるようになりました。

こうした経験から、私はアスリートの引退後の「不安」を「希望」に代える活動こそが、私のライフワークであると考えています。

引退後のアスリートが社会で輝けることや、日本のSportsの価値を向上させることは、日本を明るく照らす新たな原動力になると信じています。

After graduating from high school,
I became immersed in rugby after joining my company’s business association team
through a recommendation. Every day brought new challenges and experiences that
helped me grow and feel fulfilled. Now that I think about it, I probably wasn’t strong
enough as a player, but through rugby I was able to meet new people and live with a
clear objective as an athlete.

It’s not an exaggeration to say life for me without rugby was unimaginable.
However, when I was 24 I suffered head injuries including a skull fracture and
cerebral contusion. It was clear that my body was no longer able play rugby.

I couldn’t immediately accept the situation in front of me.
I was overcome with grief from losing my ability to play rugby,
anxiety from not knowing how to live my life from now on, and regret over failing
to reach my goals. I felt like I lost my worth as an individual and wanted to escape
from the reality that I was now “retired” from the sport that defined my life.

I was at a complete loss as to how to live for the future.

However, thanks to the support from many different people, although it was rough
at first, I was able to have a wonderful experience.

Sports saved me in many ways and had become integral to helping me grow into who I was as a person. With this perspective I was finally able to accept the “now.” With the same spirit I gained through playing sports, I was once again
highly motivated and living a life that brought me fulfillment just as I did during my competitive sports days.

In retrospect, the younger me who dwelled on thoughts like, “If only I hadn’t
gotten injured…” was just running from reality.
I now believe, “Thanks to that accident, I am here now.”

Thanks to my experience, my life’s mission is to replace the anxiety athletes experience from retirement with hope.

I believe that retired athletes can shine in society, and not only improve the value of Japanese sports, but also be the driving force to brighten Japan.

Thinking of how to utilize the power of humans is something polished through competitive sports teaching us a beautiful lesson of of how to express individuality and share it with society.

Dreamer will continue to aim to make Japan an advanced sports country where sports have penetrated society through constructing a method where companies can use the expressiveness of sports as a driving force in the economy.

I look forward to working with all people who love sports and wish to make Japan an advanced sports country.
